Surf Spots

Playgrounds is a beautiful cobblestone setup, similar to Lower Trestles in Southern California. This wave is called Playgrounds for a reason.  It is like surfing a skate park, with split-peak ramps and even barrels sometimes.  Many consider it one of the best breaks in Nicaragua.

Lance’s Left is a friendly, long left point break. It is great for longboards and fun boards when it is small to medium size and is fun for short boards on medium to large days, when it becomes a more of an advanced wave. Surfers can excess this gem by parking in El Astillero and walking over. Lance’s is usually consistent with lots of waves for everyone.

Astillero is a beach break in front of the river mouth of El Astillero.  It has a few different right and left peaks and can vary from a beginner’s wave when the swell is small to an experienced level when the swell is big.  There is usually quite a bit of current here, but also lots of barrels.

Guasacate is a fun beach break. The waves here vary greatly based on the size, direction and tide, but can offer fun surf for all levels.

Popoyo is considered one of the most consistent and fun waves in the area. Both a right and a left, this reef magnifies swell and is rideable almost everyday.  It is also home to the Outer Reef, which is Nicaragua’s most famous big wave break.

Santana is a fast, barreling beach break. Swells bounce off a rock headland and create wedgy peaks up and down the beach.

Rosada is a left-hand point break over a fairly shallow reef bottom and is situated in a gorgeous, private cove.

Los Perros features both a mellow beach break when the swell is small as well as a right-hand point that breaks over rock that is a great option when the surf gets bigger.

Panga Drops is a fun, peaky reef break that magnifies swell and is typically larger than most other spots.  It is one of the most consistent waves in our area.

Colorado is a fast, barreling beach break, which is often considered one of Nicaragua’s best.  It is very consistent and works in almost all sizes of surf.

Amarillo is a beach break located just north of Gigante that has smaller waves on the south side and larger waves on the north side.  Both waves are great for beginners and intermediate surfers.

Manzanillo is a quality, left-hand point break. When the break reaches it’s full potential, it’s one of the best waves Nicaragua has to offer. Even on mediocre days, it is a very fun wave. The long left hugs the beautiful cliff and races across the shallow rocks.
